Get siding bids in Portland & beyond

Siding damage hides behind the paint. A soft board at the bottom of a north wall usually means water has been getting in for years, and a fair bid depends on what the contractor expects to find under it. Post photos of the worst spots and of the whole wall, say whether you want a repair or a replacement, and license-verified siding contractors bid the real work.

Siding questions, answered

Repair or replace?

If the damage is one wall or a few boards and the rest is sound, a repair is honest work and a good contractor will say so. If the siding is failing in several places, has been painted over rot, or is original T1-11 from the seventies, replacement usually costs less over ten years than chasing leaks. Ask each bid which they recommend and why.

What is under the siding matters. How do bids handle that?

Nobody can see the sheathing until the old siding comes off. Good bids state a price for the visible work and a per-sheet or per-foot rate for rotten sheathing or framing found underneath, so there is no surprise number later. Compare that line across bids, not just the total.

Does new siding need a permit in Portland?

Replacing siding like for like generally does not, but work that touches structure, changes window openings, or involves a whole-house wrap on some older homes can. A licensed contractor knows the local rule and a bid that mentions it is a good sign.

How does bidding work?

Post once with photos and a budget range, and up to five license-verified siding contractors bid with a price, what is included, and when they can start. Your contact info stays private until you pick one.
