What a bathroom remodel actually costs in Portland

The Portland-specific surprise
Much of the city’s housing is 60 to 110 years old. Open a bathroom wall in a 1920s bungalow and you may find galvanized supply lines, a cast-iron drain, undersized wiring, or a rotted subfloor under the toilet. Good contractors price a contingency for this or say plainly that they will bill it as found. A bid that does not mention what is behind the wall has not thought about it.
Permits
Anything touching plumbing, electrical, or structure needs a permit in Portland.
